Peter Schipperheyn
Wynne Prize award winning sculptor Peter Schipperheyn photographed at his home studio in Donvale.
Featured in these images are Peter's 5 meter tall ‘Barak’ sculpture of Aboriginal artist and activist William Barak (1824-1903) who was the last traditional Ngurungaeta of the Wurundjeri-Willam clan, the pre-colonial inhabitants of present-day Melbourne, Australia.
Also featured is ‘The Alchemist, and the tale of the wooden cotton reel’ carved from Carrara Statuario Marble stone sourced from Italy, where he first learnt the craft of marble sculpture in 1979.
Peter has dedicated his life to this unique craft, the fine details of his work and the sheer scale of their size are astonishing to see in person.
“Tradition is the conversation which stretches across time, it is a conversation about what it is to be a human being.”
