Westgate Park Pink Lake
Towards the end of January I spent 3 days documenting the pink lake at Westgate Park. This natural phenomenon hasn’t occurred at the lake since 2019.
Westgate Park’s salt lake turn pink due to high salt levels, high temperatures, increased sunlight and lack of rainfall. Algae growing in the salt crust produces the red pigment due to the extremely high salt levels.
Birds spotted: Stilt, Superb Fairywren.
